The "Bogetti Brothers" name has a long history, beginning in Italy over 150 years ago. Dominic and Veronica Bogetti, a very young, adventurous couple from Benneveginna Italy, packed their belongings and made the long journey to the United States. After traveling across country they settled in Ventura, California and began farming in 1886. They built a winery and raised walnuts and grapes and were busy raising their young family. They were the parents of the first Bogetti Brothers, Antone and George. They also had another son, Peter and a daughter Margaret. Antone, our grandfather, was born in Ventura, California in 1891. His father died when he was in the 4th grade. He was forced to quit school and help support the family, working on the farm and in the oil fields in Ventura, California. Antone and George began farming in Arizona when it was still a Territory. They raised mostly alfalfa, which was used to feed the horses in Los Angeles. After a few years they moved back to Ventura and took over the winery. They grew apricots for the dried fruit market and grapes. Prohibition shut down the winery but the brothers continued the farming operation.
In 1915 Antone married Jeanne Coucke, a young native California girl of Belgian ancestry. Jeanne was born in California while her father, an engineer, built the church in Oxnard. Our grandparents had neighboring farms and met while Jeanne was horseback riding. They married and the two had six children, Bertha, John, Antoinette, George, Albert, and Robert. Albert is our father. Antone and Jeanne, our grandparents, moved to Kings City and began farming with our Great Uncle George. George's wife Florence died when she quite young and the couple never had any children. It was a very windy, hot life and the family moved back to Ventura where Antone started a grocery store. He closed the grocery store and moved to Tracy, California to start farming, his first love. The family moved to Tracy, California in 1930 and our father was born the following year. Antone started farming beans, apricots, almonds, sugar beets, and tomatoes in the Tracy area.
Two of Antone's children, our father, Albert, and his brother George, began farming as Bogetti Brothers while they were still in High School. Albert married our mother Dorothy and they had five children, twins Paulette and Paula, Angela, Mike, and Albert Jr. Mom was born in Nebraska and came out to California during the Dust Bowl when she was young. Her family settled in the Tracy area and our parents met while attending Tracy High School. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in October 2000. Our mom is a fabulous cook. She makes the best candy, pies, bread, breakfasts, lunches, dinners etc., etc. She can cook anything and it always tastes wonderful. We have always had homemade jams, syrups and jellies. We use her recipes to make our jams and syrups today.
We (Mike and Albert Jr.) began farming in 1979 when Albert Jr. was still in high school. We raised Cherries, Apricots, and Almonds on our first piece of property. Mike married his high school sweetheart, Laurie, and they have three children, Veronica, Sarah, and Mike Jr.. They have one grandchild, Damon. Albert Jr. also married his high school sweetheart, Elaine. The two have five children, Albert III, Clayton, Domonic, Laryn, and Liesel. Young cousins, Mike Jr. and Albert III started raising beans last year and time will tell if they continue farming. In 1984 we opened the Tracy Orchard Restaurant and began serving mom's apricot syrup with our pancakes. Everybody loved it so much; we began selling bottles of the syrup to our customers. We now make several fruit jams and syrups, all from mom's recipes. We use only the finest ingredients. We still raise much of the fruit we use in our products and we use only natural sugar. Our jams and syrups have only the finest fruit, tree ripened in the California sunshine. Mom wouldn't have it any other way and neither would we. |
